The US Embassy and Consulates in India to extend visa fees validity till 2023
Providing relief to Indian travellers seeking US visa and all the applicants who were unable to schedule a visa appointment as a result of the suspension of routine consular operations due to Covid-19 pandemic, The US Embassy and Consulates in India have announced to extend the validity of the visa payment, known as the MRV fee until September 30, 2023.

In a statement posted on the website of the US Department of State Visa Appointment Service, the Mission said, “The US Embassy and Consulates in India understand that many visa applicants have paid the visa application processing fee and are still waiting to schedule a visa appointment. We are working diligently to restore all routine visa operations as quickly and safely as possible. In the meantime, rest assured that the US Mission will extend the validity of your payment (known as the MRV fee) until September 30, 2023, to allow all applicants who were unable to schedule a visa appointment as a result of the suspension of routine consular operations an opportunity to schedule and/or attend a visa appointment with the already paid fee.”

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will begin granting fresh tourist visas to foreigners coming to India through chartered flights with effect from October 15, whereas travellers coming by regular scheduled flights will be allowed entry in India from November 15.

It also asked to monitor the official website to gain information and updates regarding resumption of routine and regular visa operations. Earlier, the US Embassy and Consulates in India started offering free document pickup and submission services at the OFC where the Embassy/Consulate is located effective August 17. The announcement comes as a relief to US visa applicants who have already paid their visa application fee and were still awaiting the scheduling of their visa appointment. The applicants themselves are not required to take any further action for extending the validity of the fees already paid by them.In light of the travel suspension and pandemic situation in India, routine non-immigrant visa and VAC appointments at US Embassy in New Delhi and the consulates in Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai remain extremely limited with only emergency visa services being offered in limited categories. The United States government had announced last month that it will lift Covid travel bans on all air passengers in November 2021, if they are fully vaccinated and undergo testing and contact tracing.
