JK Rowling donates money for COVID-19 relief work in India

Author JK Rowling donated a six-figure amount to Khalsa Aid, a UK-based humanitarian relief organisation, for their COVID-19 relief work in India. With India under the surge of a deadly second wave of the Coronavirus, Khalsa Aid has been working relentlessly to provide medical aides to COVID-19 patients. The donation was made through Rowling’s charitable trust named The Volant Charitable Trust.

Sharing the news, Khalsa Aid shared on Twitter:

Responding to their tweet, Rowling thanked her readers for buying a copy of her new children’s book ‘The Ickabog’. The reason: Rowling had initially published ‘The Ickabog’ online for free on her website, for kids stuck at home during lockdown in various countries in 2020. The author then announced an Ickabog illustration competition for children across the world– the winners’ illustrations were later published in ‘The Ickabog’ book. Rowling announced on her website that she is donating the net royalties through the book’s sales to her charitable Trust, Volant “to help medical and frontline charities supporting vulnerable groups impacted by COVID-19”.

The British author also donated a six-figure amount for British Asian Trust’s oxygen for India emergency appeal. Expressing her gratitude, Rowling tweeted:

Meanwhile, JK Rowling’s new children’s novel ‘The Christmas Pig’ is expected to be released in October 2021.
