abhishek: Ambala local receives prestigious Tatrakshak Medal | India News – Times of India

AMBALA: Indian Coast Guard deputy commandant Abhishek Kumar was awarded the prestigious Tatrakshak Medal by defence minister Rajnath Singh during an investiture ceremony in Delhi on October 9.
Abhishek was awarded for his gallantry during an operation to bust a drug-smuggling racket in 2019, when he along with his team seized about 1.1 tonnes of ketamine.
“I joined the Indian Coast Guard on December 22, 2011. I was awarded for an incident dated September 19, 2019, when I was posted in the Indian Coast Guard ship Rajveer. Our team had seized a haul of ketamine, which was on its way in a sea vessel from Myanmar to Indonesia. There were seven persons in the suspected vessel who were caught in the middle of the sea. I was the boarding officer and our team handed over the seized drugs and the accused persons to the state police,” Abhishek told TOI.
Beaming with pride, Abhishek’s parents said: “He dreamed of serving the nation from childhood.”
“I am the third generation in my family who is serving the nation in the forces and this award has brought me laurels,” said Abhishek. His father Krishan Lal retired as Honorary Captain and his grandfather Ram Singh was a Naik, both in the Indian Army.
