500 Years Old Vaniyaan Tree in Odisa

A 50 years old Baniyan tree in Kendrapara in Odisha.

The gigantic tree, spread across 1.3 acres of land with about 600 trunks and sub-trunks, has been granted the tourist spot status by the state government following visits of tourists in the area throughout the year.

Odisha government is creating spot as tourist destination and funds have been sanctioned for developing the place.

The Banyan tree has great importance in Indian society.

Banyan is considered holy in several religious traditions of India. The Banyan is the National tree of India, and also the state tree of Madhya Pradesh.

Records of Banyan tree

Thimmamma Marrimanu, is listed as the world’s largest Banyan tree in the Guinness World Records in 1989. The tree is situated about 35 km from Kadri Lakshmi Narasimha temple in Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh. Its branches spread over 5 acres, with a canopy of 19,107 square meters.
